MARCH MADNESS!

Big Dance News
Vol. 28 No.1 March 11, 2011
"The Biggest Dance on the Web"

In this time of continued turmoil and uncertainty, The Big Dance returns to provide entertainment for the depressed, excitement for the bored and the prospect of cash flow for the out-of-work hedge fund manager.

Now in its 28th year, The Big Dance has become the stuff of legend, matching global Dancers in the greatest challenge in sports – unerringly selecting the NCAA Men’s Championship bracket victors in a battle of raw genius. The Big Dance is back, again featuring easy accessibility through The Big Dance Website, three weeks of nerve-wracking suspense, frequent updates to keep Big Dancers riveted and lots of good, wholesome fun. The challenge this year will be the greatest ever, as the NCAA has expanded the field to 68 teams, requiring 4 “play-in” games to establish the field of 64. We will handle “play-ins” as we have in the past: you will not be required to select the “play-in” game winner, rather you will be permitted to select the “winner of the play-in game” as the victor in future rounds. If this is confusing to you, then you are a perfect candidate to enter The Big Dance.

For those of you newly invited to The Dance, the rules of engagement remain the same and will be posted at www.thebiggestdance.com, the official home of the Biggest Dance. All entries must be submitted electronically through the website. The draw will be posted on Sunday, March 13 and entries will be accepted through The Biggest Dance Automated Entry System until 12 noon (EDT) on Thursday, March 17.

The Big Dance Blog will again provide a public roasting pit on the home page of The Big Dance website, beginning Sunday evening. The BDBlog will be available 24/7 throughout March Madness. Feel free to visit now, www.thebiggestdance.com, and share your brilliance, insight or rants with your fellow Dancers.

As it has been for 28 years, the entry donation remains $100. The top eight finishers will receive prize money, keeping Dancers riveted until the bitter end. Also as in past years, The Commissioner expects each of you to recruit fresh, naïve, inexperienced lambs to be led to the slaughter - and join in the fun. Wives and husbands, in particular, are especially attractive recruits - bring the Big Dance Pool experience to your dinner table for the next three weekends!

Stay tuned to The Big Dance website, www.thebiggestdance.com, for the rules, updates and a host of other surprises. Buckle up and enjoy the show!

BUTLER, BUTLER, BUTLER!

BUTLER, BUTLER, BUTLER!
SONNY JOEL LEADS THE PACK
Chapple One Point Back in 2nd
Schirk Squeezes Past Psaros to Lock Up Last

"Hoosiers, The Sequel" is playing on a television set near you. Tune in this weekend, even if your bracket has been deep sixed, to witness the Bulldogs' historic run - your grandchildren will ask you about it years from now.

And in The Biggest dance, first time Dancer Sonny Joel carries the slimmest of leads into the Final Four, having parlayed successful picks of Duke and West Virginia to the top of the pack and locking up the number 1 spot in 50% of possible outcomes. Ken Chapple, currently a single point behind Joel, will take the gold in 3 of 8 scenarios and, remarkably, Chapple's 2nd entry (the lone entry selecting Butler as National Champ and the only Dancer to pick 3 of the Final Four) will finish first should Butler beat Duke in the final. In all, twenty Dancers remain in the battle for money finishes in this year's upset-laden Big Dance.

Among those with serious money in their sights is none other than Big Dance veteran, Max Kern, who achieves a payday if West Virginia wins their next game. Max, currently in 21st, is a battle-tested Big Dancer who has a multi-year history of leaving father Peter (now in 85th) and mother Kirsten (201st) in his dust. And at the advanced age of 10, Max has put most of the rest of us to shame as well.

The sad truth is that, by and large, this year's winner is the Dance itself. Upsets galore, two 5th seeds in the Final Four, the power conferences taking their lumps early and often - a combination that left many experienced Dancers (as well as many neophytes) scratching their heads and waiting for next year. Bob Mendelsohn, a 27 year veteran of The Dance, escaped the curse and has positioned himself out-of-the-money but ina very respectable 29th position. Last year's winner, Morgatu, has also managed a respectable showing and is currently seated in 69th. But others, none more noteworthy than Jack Nusbaum, (except for perhaps The Commissioner himself), struggled to stay out of the caboose. Speaking of the caboose, in a race as exciting as the competition for the top spot, Master Schirk pulled a rabbit out of his hat to barely squeeze past Mike Psaros into last place, where he is certain to remain until next year.

POTASH RETAINS LEAD AFTER ROUND 1

POTASH RETAINS LEAD AFTER ROUND 1
Beanie 28, Hanson and Humbard in 2nd
Psaros Strengthens Hold on Last Place

Big Dance veteran Brian Potash leads all Dancers after Round 1, riding a field-best 45 upset points to the top notwithstanding an 18-14 opening round performance. Potash’s performance is all the more remarkable in light of the fact that only two Dancers (William Bigwood and Mike Harding) delivered worse first round W/L records. Beanie 28 was at 28-4 through Friday and posted the leading Biggest Dance winning percentage, bringing the most juice into the weekend’s games.

A number of Dancers delivered in a fashion worth noting, none more impressively than Mike “Bobo” Psaros, who was one of only two geniuses to select no upset winners and finds himself alone at the back of the bus. No worries, Mike, there is still lots of basketball left to play, with lots of points to be earned, particularly if your ultimate pick is crowned the national champ. And after all, you’ve got your money on the Hoyas…oops. Also of note, long time Dancer Steve Forrest is firmly in 5th followed by another Tourney vet with the award-winning name, Tenzing Dhamcho who is in 8th. Tenzing is tied with several others including Michelle and David of the Smooth family, who have embarrassed other Smooths to lead the Smooth Family battle.

Special kudos to 20+ year Dance veteran Lane Bonner, who holds down 24th with three others, including another Smooth, the deeply-experienced Mike Sullivan and rookie BenTD. And who is planted in 28th – it’s none other than original Dancer Bob Mendelsohn, tied with 6 others but certain to commence his inexorable slide toward mediocrity as soon as Saturday’s games commence. No Big Dance would be complete without throwing a bone to Jack Nusbaum, who somehow stumbled into a tie for 64th.

In other news, a massive sandstorm has turned Beijing’s streets yellow, Rooey had successful corrective surgery, Rob Fusari is suing Lady Gaga for $30 million and his lawyer claimed she is not a Roman Catholic nun, Wrapsol Ultra Film protects phones when they're dragged behind a car at 35 mph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63_UvQBMKG4), Tak and Ken did FLA and, sadly, the Commish is getting Crushed in 186th.

All for now! Enjoy the games!

THAT’S WHY THEY CALL IT “MARCH MADNESS”!

Vol. 27 No. 2 March 19, 2010

Record Field of 246 Dancers Facing Record Number of Upsets

One day of play, 16 games, 7 upsets – that’s why they call it March Madness.

An exhilarating first day of the Big Dance delivered on all that makes this tourney great – three overtime games, one #10, two #11s, a #13 and a #14 all advancing and ‘Nova nearly taken out by Robert Morris.  And it only gets better from here.

On The Big Dance field of battle, upset performances also abounded.  Ken Chapple, Beanie 28, Brad Ford and Dennis Pitts all went 14-2 on Day One, but they and everyone else trail Big Dance veteran Brian Potash who, despite a mediocre 11-5 record, rode 35 upset points into 1st place.  In our RECORD FIELD of 246, 4 selected #14 Ohio U over Georgetown and 119 had #13 Murray State over Vandy, including the aforesaid Potash who nailed both. The theme through the first day of competition seems to be that the major conference powerhouses may be over-rated, and apparently no conference more than the Big East.  It does appear that we may have been duped here on the East Coast, having been fed a steady diet of Big East teams beating up on one another throughout the regular season, we thought they all were pretty good.  Oops.

Special Kudos to Master Schirk, who managed a 6-10 record through the first day of competition (but is firmly in the middle of the pack in 134th as a result of a few upset picks).  In total, 12 Dancers managed to pick NO upsets in the upset-laden Thursday, including Evan Brown, TJ Jetnil and Ken Wirth who added to their glorious start by selecting more losers than winners – dumping them in a 3-way tie for 244th.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
All donations are due in the Commissioner’s Office by next Wednesday, March 24.
Failure to comply will result in immediate posting of your name, home address, social security number, credit card numbers (with security codes) and cell phone call register on the Dreaded Deadbeat List.  Further, The Commissioner’s Office has retained the services of certain special forces operatives, a sleeper cell of Al-Qaida and Tony and Bruno from Brooklyn to physically ensure full compliance with said due date.

THE BIG DANCE, THE FIRST DANCE OF THE ECONOMIC RECOVERY, IS HERE!

Big Dance News
Vol. 27 No. 1 March 11, 2010

In this time of continuing turmoil and uncertainty, The Big Dance returns to provide entertainment for the depressed, excitement for the bored and the prospect of cash flow for the out-of-work hedge fund manager. Backed by a massive infusion of TARP money, The Big Dance 2010 may offer the largest payday in the 27 year history of Biggest Dance Fever.

Now in its 27th year, The Big Dance has become the stuff of legend, matching global Dancers in the greatest challenge in sports - unerringly selecting the NCAA Men's Championship bracket victors in a battle of raw genius. The Big Dance is back, again featuring easy accessibility through The Big Dance Website, three weeks of nerve-wracking suspense, frequent updates to keep Big Dancers riveted and lots of good, wholesome fun. The challenge this year will be the greatest ever, as the newly destitute among the Big Dance contestants are relying on anticipated Big Dance cash flow as a primary source of 2010 income. All entries must be submitted electronically at www.thebiggestdance.com, the official home of the Biggest Dance. The draw will be posted on Sunday, March 14 immediately after the televised Selection Sunday show and entries will be accepted through The Biggest Dance Automated Entry System until 12 noon (EDT) on Thursday, March 18.

The Big Dance Blog will remain a key feature of the entertainment package that The Big Dance provides. Think of the BDBlog as a public roasting pit, available on the home page of The Big Dance website, to enable Big Dancers to rage against their team, competitive Dancers, or simply to Rage Against the Machine. The BDBlog will be available 24/7 throughout March Madness. Feel free to visit now, www.thebiggestdance.com, and share your brilliance, insight or rants with your fellow Dancers.

As it has been for 27 years, the entry donation remains $100. The top eight finishers will receive prize money, keeping Dancers riveted until the bitter end.
